Retene in pyrolysates of algal and bacterial organic matter
نویسندگان
چکیده
Retene, dehydroabietin, and 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroretene have been identi®ed by GC±MS in extractable aromatic hydrocarbon fractions produced by pyrolysis at 200 and 300 C of pure strains of the green alga Chlorella protothecoides and the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. The results suggest phytoplankton as a possible source of retene in Recent and ancient sediments. # 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

Organic Carbon and Organic Matter Levels in Sediments of the Strait of Hormoz, the Persian Gulf
Total organic carbon has a major influence on both the chemical and biological processesthat take place in sediments. Algal bloom is one of the organic carbon levels in aquatic ecosystems. In 2009 algal bloom occurred in the Hormozgan province and prolonged for months, which finally setteled down in 2010. In this study the variations of total organic carbon (TOC), organic matter (TOM) and tot...
متن کاملEffect of Supplementation of Alfalfa Silage with Lactobacillus Buchneri Additive, Orange Pulp and Molasses on Dry Matter, Crude Protein and Organic Matter Degradability by Nylon Bags
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of supplementation of alfalfa silage with Lactobacillus buchneri additive, orange pulp and molasses on dry matter, crude protein and organic matter degradability by nylon bags. The treatments included: alfalfa silage (control treatment), alfalfa silage processed with bacterial additive, 3×108 cfu/g, alfalfa and orange pulp silage, alfalfa...
متن کاملInteractions of planktonic algae and bacteria: effects on algal growth and organic matter dynamics
Interactions between phytoplankton and heterotrophic bacteria have been intensively studied, but many aspects of these interactions are still unknown because most of the studies were performed under non-axenic conditions. Therefore, we investigated the growth and release of dissolved organic matter of the marine diatom Thalassiosira rotula in axenic culture in comparison to T. rotula cultures i...
متن کاملModeling the bacterial contribution to planktonic community respiration in the regulation of solar energy and nutrient availability
In planktonic ecosystems, algae and bacteria exhibit complex interrelationships, as algae provide an important organic matter source for microbial growth while microbial metabolism recycles limiting nutrients for algae in a loose commensalism. However, algae and bacteria can also compete for available nutrients if supplies of organic matter are sufficient to satisfy bacterial demand. We develop...
متن کاملDiagenesis of Vascular Plant Organic Matter Components during Burial in Lake Sediments
Diagenetic changes are difficult to distinguish from variations in sources of organic matter to sediments. Organic geochemical comparisons of samples of wood, bark, and needles from a white spruce (Picea glauea) living today and one buried for 10,000 years in lake sediments have been used to identify the effects of diagenesis on vascular plant matter. Important biogeochemical changes are eviden...
